iPad 3 Digitizer Leaked, Shows Home Button | Technology News

Despite ongoing speculation that the iPad 3 may not include a physical Home button, a repair shop has obtained not one, but two digitizer panels pertaining to the next-generation tablet, confirming that it does have a physical Home key.

Earlier this week, Apple-centric sites and blogs proposed the possibility that Apple’s next iPad won’t have a home button. The imagery accompanying Apple’s press invitations seemed to suggest that.

“The picture above is the iPad 3 digitizer,” says RepairLabs.“ This part controls the iPad’s touch function, as well as includes your front glass. As you can see from our images, not much has changed in the look of your iPad.”

“With the back housing in hand, and now with this piece, we can confirm your iPad will look a lot like the iPad 2, just that 1mm thicker. The picture above also proves that we will have the home button on the iPad 3, contrary to some reports that came out yesterday,” says the repair shop. “We also can see that Apple is planning to have both black and white models of the iPad 3, which is not surprising.”

The digitizer connection indicates a difference between the iPad 3 and the iPad 2 on the inside - “the logic board will be different, just as we surmised by looking at the back housing,” says RepairLabs.

The company adds that “the digitizer proves that Apple has not made any radical form changes to your favorite device.”

Apple is holding a special event next week, Wednesday, March 7, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California.

The invitations send out to select members of the media indicate that the event will revolve around a new version of the iPad, possibly with a Retina display, LTE networking, a higher-resolution camera, and other enhancements.

Simulating the iPad 3 Retina Display - Screenshots | Technology News

iOS developer Kevin Ng has created some impressive graphics to reveal what his Food Run game would look like on the iPad 3's 2048 x 1536 "Retina Display".

On his blog, he shares Apple’s Retina-display marketing speak with the world, noting that “Retina Display means a display whose pixels are so small that at typical viewing distances, they cannot be individually distinguished.”

“Apple coined the term for its launch of the iPhone 4, which featured a screen resolution of 960 x 640, compared to its predecessor’s resolution of 480 x 320. Twice as many dots along each direction, or four times as many pixels in total,” he says.

The developer notes the current resolution of the iPad 2 (as well as that of the first-generation device) – 1024 x 768, and estimates that, “if Apple were to go along the same route and double the resolution in each direction, then the iPad 3 will be running at 2048 x 1536. Again, four times as many pixels."

"That would be truly impressive for a 9.7-inch display,” he asserts.

To test what his Food Run game would look like on the crisp screen of the next Apple tablet, he shared the following two images as a comparison between the current iPad display and the one to be used in the next iPad.

Kevin even envisioned Apple’s press invitation artwork with his own game on the iPad 3’s display as the finger touches its surface (see at the top next to the introductory paragraph).

He kept the accompanying message, “We have something you really have to see. And touch.” Perhaps Apple should consider featuring his game on stage.
